John Godinho Head Coach (360) 604-6250 ext.7418

I am proud to have the honor of being the first Union Head Wrestling Coach.

My name is John Godinho and I am willing to work hard to ensure success on and off the mat. I have been part of many championships.

In High School I was on a great team that took state in 1984 and 1985. I personally won state titles these years. I wrestled in college at Pacific Lutheran University for four years as a varsity wrestler. I received All American status and qualified for Nationals three of these years. Not ready to leave wrestling, coaching was the next step. In 1992 I began coaching in the Evergreen School District. I have coached continuously since then at the Middle school and High School level. In these years, I have been a part of two wrestling state championships.

I believe wrestling gives you more than championships; it teaches you life skills such as work ethic, loyalty and dedication. You can expect to experience and learn more than wrestling as a Titan Wrestler.

Kyle Bounds Assistant Coach

My name is Kyle Bounds and I am very excited to coach the Union Titans to a successful year.

In High School I was a 3x Washington State Champion, and a 4x finalist. I was also a 2X Greco National Champion, and a 3X Free-style All-American. I then proceeded to wrestle at University o f Oregon. When the program at the University of Oregon was dropped, I transferred and finished my career at Michigan State University where I was a NCAA National Qualifier.

I believe as a coach, if all I do is teach wrestling, I have failed. Wrestling should also teach kids how to become successful individuals. Go Titans!

Chris Spurlock Assistant Coach

Coach Spurlock graduated from Heritage High School in 2004, where he was a three sport athlete earning 8 varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track.

In wrestling Spurlock was a member of Heritage’s 2003 State Championship team and In 2004, he was a regional Champion, and placed in both the Pac Coast and State Tournaments. Coach Spurlock has a total of seven years wrestling experience and is very active in strength and conditioning training.

He is a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma and plans to pursue his PHD in physical Therapy Starting in the fall of 2012.

Quanah Briggs Assistant Coach

My name is Quanah Briggs and I have been in wrestling for 10 years. Throughout my high school career I battled two shoulder surgeries which kept me off the mat a lot. I was fortunate to be healthy enough to wrestle my senior season to place 6th in State losing in the semi-finals in triple overtime. I also went 13-0 on The School-Boy National Team and I like to think of the Big-Man type of wrestling as my forte' since I am a "Big Man". Wrestling is not only the most physically draining sport I know of, but is mentally enduring as well.

This is my third year of coaching with Coach Godinho and I am excited to continue to work on my coaching skills with the powerful Union Titans. I will work as a coach to provide our wrestlers with the best experience and training to become successful wrestlers on and off the mat. I feel that wrestling is a great builder of character. I wrestled for Godinho at Union and Heritage and I support Godinho in everything he teaches. I'm excited to be apart of the team again this season and look forward to continuing the tradition we have established here at Union in these few years of its exsistence.

Jared Kilcup Assistant Coach

My name is Jared Kilcup and I have been involved in the great sport of wrestling for 12 years.  Last year, in the 2010 season, I was an assistant coach for Camas High School.  But I wanted to coach under coach Godinho who was a high school coach of mine at Heritage, as well as, a huge role model.  My achievements in wrestling are:

  • 4 year varsity wrestler
  • Freshman State Participant
  • 8th High School 4A State
  • 2 time Freestyle and Greco National Team Member
  • Freestyle State Champion
  • Earned my way onto 1st National team because of my work ethic.

I look forward to coaching your sons and daughters and watching the way this great sport will change them into men and women.

Tom Strassenberg Assistant Coach
My name is Tom Strassenberg and I'm looking forward to the coaching oppportunities and the continued development of the Union Titan Wrestling Program.

I attended Western Oregon State College and played baseball and football for the Wolves. I have been involved with Southwest Washington Wrestling Club for the past eight years and have enjoyed the constant evolution of the sport and surrounding myself with the best coaches possible. That feeling of unity exists here with the Titan wrestlers and coaching staff and I feel honored to be an integral part of its current and future success.
J.D. West Assistant Coach

I am JD West and it is truly a honor and privilege to be joining the Union Titan Wrestling staff this year.

Under the tutelage of John Godinho, I was able to be a part of many great teams in high school, winning District, Regional, and State Championships as a team; However, the skills learned on the mat have assisted me in being successful in the real world as a Soldier in the Washington National Guard and a college student. Since Union opened, I have volunteered my time in the practice room, off and on, giving advice from my personal experiences that has lead to the success of many wrestlers. I attempt to portray the mantra of achieving "excellence in everything", to not only include wrestling but also academics, careers, family life, and friendships. It is my intention to pass that onto the young men and women of the Titan wrestling team.
